Original Painting In Mixed Media
I absolutely love my new original painting. Hope you love it too!
I created this original artwork with indian ink and pastel on a lovely sanded paper.
The initial underpainting was completed in a watercolour consistency of ink, followed by further layers of stronger pigment.
My aim was to obtain the textures on not only the subject matter but the wall itself, so sanded paper was a perfect choice. The sanded paper I use is white Pastelmat. To touch is has a smooth velvet feel, so you are able to to use mediums for finer work.
I achieve a reasonable amount of detail on this substrate, and even used Faber Castell Fine Art Indian Ink Pens on this piece to do so; these are a fabulous range of ink pens with some gorgeous pigments.
Soft pastels create most of the texture, but also add additional vibrancy to the piece.
I am currently enjoying using the combination of strong pigments on the sanded surface of Pastelmat.
I used a similar approach when I painted my piece called Retired, which was the experimental piece when exploring the combination of media. Take a peek as it is another vibrant piece of work.
