This artwork was one of my most experimental pieces so far. Using my Icarus Heated Painting Board, invented by inventor & artist Ester Roi, I used wax based media including wax based coloured pencils to lay pigment onto Strathmore paper. I lay the initial couple of layers while the board was on medium to high heat, building the waxy pigment, and then blended with a colourless wax blender over high heat. The effect of the blender was to make the colours really bright, and add a lovely gloss shine to the artwork. I also used different methods to lift pigment off the paper, and scratched into some areas to get some fine detail. Once all the main layers were complete & blended, I used oil based coloured pencils to add detail, and tidy edges and to give the painting more depth.
