Artists coloured pencils have come a long way over recent years.  Lightfastness has up until recent years always been a real problem when creating fine art with the medium, but these days with brands such as Caran d’Ache Luminance, and Faber Castell Polychromos, these problems have almost been eliminated.  Their popularity has increased significantly in recent years, and they are becoming more accepted alongside other main art mediums in galleries.

There are numerous artists who work in the public eye who continue to increase their popularity.  Two American artists currently produce a weekly podcast on coloured pencils and the coloured pencil artist.  The show is fun and informative, and full of information and advice for all artists of any medium.  I currently download the show to my phone through my podcast app, but you can listen on line if you prefer.  Click this link to the Sharpened Artist Podcast  and catch up with 100 episodes of entertainment and really useful coloured pencil information.

Another site which is extremely useful for this medium is a UK site called Coloured Pencil Topics.  The website penciltopics.co.uk has every piece of information you could possibly need to know on the medium and exceptionally useful if you are just starting out in the medium, or wish to find out more information before splashing out on your first set of pencils.

If you do take the time to listen to the Podcast, leave John & Lisa the artists your feedback, I’m sure they would appreciate it.  Likewise leave me your comments below on how useful this art blog was for you!  Happy Painting – Jackie Kirby
